Curt - In the ‘90s when the market crashed, I was exclusively working for banks, selling foreclosures, and business was booming! However, I wasn’t really looking ahead. The banks of course, were less than thrilled with the turning market and decided they needed to make a change.
In 1997, many banks began to change their business model. It was a good move for them, but a disaster for me! I lost all the business I’d been raking in—and I mean all of it. In the span of four months, I went from doing over 100 deals a year to none! I was shocked. I knew it wouldn’t last forever, but I never dreamed it would turn around so suddenly.
I learned something important from those banks. To survive, you have to change your business model - all the time - and before things get too bad. This is an industry that’s constantly changing, so the way we do business must evolve with the times.
I was able to find success by diversifying my business, finding new clients, and expanding my work towards other types of sales and properties. My attention turned to the residential sector where I was able to service individuals and families instead of nameless, faceless corporations. My passion drove me to begin a family of my own. I am immensely proud to have raised five amazing children and feel incredibly grateful to be in the business of real estate. With Roni’s help, we can assist many families while delivering a high level of service.
Roni - When I was a little girl, I remember my mom working multiple jobs while raising me and my two other siblings as a single mother (and Realtor). I remember her dragging us along to her showing appointments and having to step away from holidays and dinners to deal with work. The work was constant and never seemed to end!
I hated everything to do with my parents’ careers in real estate, and these feelings continued into my teens.
I began my freshman year at SDSU and was completely consumed with my academics, water polo, and three jobs at any given time. There were opportunities to work in the family business but I felt an aversion to the industry - even as my family built strong careers, providing us with financial stability, vacations, and time together
It wasn’t until I earned my degree, traveled to over 30 countries across four continents, and worked a variety of positions, that my feelings about real estate began to change.
I started flipping houses and my knowledge of what it took to build from the ground up expanded. I soon began to run the operations side. I learned how to price out the jobs and the costs of renovations, then set my sights on becoming a licensed real estate agent. My experience provided me with an edge and a set of skills separate from other agents.
Since then, I’ve worked with multi-layered and complex transactions. I now understand the dedication my parents showed to their clients—and their own family. I’m grateful to have had their example as the foundation to run a strong business today! Being in real estate demands a great deal of responsibility: a responsibility to safely guide every client through one of the greatest investments of their life.
